A friendly B&B with lovely woodwork including the floors. The decor is tastefully understated and homely.Having a single large table for breakfast (with all guests breakfasting at 8 a.m. unless we desired otherwise) resulted in excellent conversation amongst the guests, adding greatly to the friendly welcome by the host family. The hosts are very happy to converse in utterly fluent English while preserving their own Acadian cultural and linguistic heritage. Our hosts informed us their Acadian French is distinct from the French of other parts of Canada having been separately passed down generations from 17th century French, despite schooling until recently being in English. They now have schooling in Acadian French to help preserve the culture.The location is pleasant, close to the university town of Antigonish (where there is a choice of dining and shopping). The locality is otherwise primarily useful as a stop en route to and from Cape Breton and its National Park.
Aside from being a little bit off the beaten path, we found the Piping Plover just what we were looking for. It is quiet, comfortable, the entire second floor is designated for guests with a common area sitting room with television. We enjoyed great conversations with the owners and other guests. Breakfast was delicious both days we were there.The center of Antigonish was about 15-20 minutes away which was a pretty easy commute back and forth. If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet, clean place to stay...look no further.
